There are olive oils on a shelf, and there are olive oils that stop a customer mid-aisle. Picualia is the second kind.

We are proud to announce that LGDF Wholesale is now carrying a curated lineup of Picualia Extra Virgin Olive Oil — one of Spain's most internationally decorated EVOO producers, and a brand built for exactly the kind of customer who shops at specialty grocery stores, delis, and cheese shops across Canada.

If you've been looking for a premium olive oil that does everything — tells a compelling story, earns its price point, and actually delivers on quality — this is the one.

From a Small Andalusian Cooperative to the World Stage

The story of Picualia begins in the sun-baked countryside of Bailén, Jaén, in the heart of Andalusia, Spain — one of the world's great olive-growing regions. In 1927, a local farmer named Luis Moreno Agreda dreamed of uniting his community's growers to produce the finest possible olive oil and share the wealth fairly among the families who cultivated it. Two cooperatives eventually merged, and from that union the Picualia name was born — taken directly from the Picual olive, the variety that defines the region.

Nearly a century later, Picualia is still a farmer-owned cooperative. Today it supports close to 950 local growers, 357,000 olive trees, and more than 30 full-time staff. What started as a community project has become a benchmark for what modern, responsible olive oil production can look like.

In July 2015, Picualia opened what industry publications immediately called the best olive oil facility in the world — a 55,000 m² eco-friendly, fully sustainable mill on the outskirts of Bailén. It is the only mill of its kind in all of Spain. Nothing about the operation is accidental: Big Data traceability runs throughout the facility, olives are cold-pressed at 21–22°C to preserve every antioxidant and aromatic compound, and the oil is stored under nitrogen in stainless steel tanks until a customer places an order. They bottle on-order. The oil in your bottle has never sat on a warehouse shelf waiting.

What Makes Picualia Different From Every Other Olive Oil on Your Shelf

Most olive oil producers blend varieties together. Picualia does not. Each of their three olive varieties — Picual, Hojiblanca, and Arbequina — is pressed, stored, and bottled entirely separately. Never mixed. Never blended. This is the olive oil equivalent of single-malt Scotch in a world of blends, and it matters to the customer who knows the difference.

It also means Picualia offers genuinely distinct flavour profiles across their range, giving your shop real breadth with a single brand.

Their Premium Early Harvest range, harvested in October from green olives, is among the most intensely polyphenol-rich commercial EVOOs available anywhere. The oil is up to 20 times richer in polyphenols and natural antioxidants than a standard mature extra virgin — a fact that resonates powerfully with health-conscious shoppers who read labels and research what they eat. Tasting notes of tomato plant, artichoke, green banana, and freshly cut grass give it the vibrant, peppery character that educated olive oil buyers seek.

The Gourmet Range, harvested in November as the olives transition from green to purple, delivers a more balanced profile — ripe tomato, warm banana notes, harmonious bitterness and spice. The Arbequina Gourmet, in particular, is a natural pairing with sauces, pasta, and cheese boards, making it a daily-use premium oil that customers will come back for.

The range depth, combined with striking bottle design and clear varietal identity, gives you everything you need to build a proper olive oil section — not just a row of identical bottles with different labels.

Why This Belongs in Your Store

Specialty grocery. Picualia sits naturally alongside the premium Italian, Greek, and Tunisian EVOOs that anchor your oil section. It is a category-building addition that elevates the entire shelf — and it carries a credibility story your Italian oils cannot offer. Spanish EVOO is the world's largest production by volume, but Picualia operates nothing like a commodity producer. Single-varietal, award-winning, estate-traceable: it is the Spanish answer to a Tuscan estate oil, at a more competitive price point.

Deli and charcuterie. The Picual Premium is a finishing oil. A drizzle over cured meats, a dipping oil with crusty bread, a finisher on a cheese board — these are the moments your deli customers are buying for. The oil's intensity and peppery finish make it memorable, and memorable oils become repeat purchases.

Cheese shops. The Gourmet Arbequina pairs beautifully across a wide range of cheese styles — its mild fruitiness and balanced character complement both fresh and aged cheeses without overwhelming them. For gifting, a 500ml bottle alongside a wedge of Manchego or aged Mahón is an easy, high-margin curated set that sells itself.

Health-focused shoppers. The polyphenol conversation is no longer niche. Customers at your counter are increasingly asking about oleocanthal, antioxidant content, and anti-inflammatory properties. Picualia's Premium early-harvest oils give you a factual, defensible answer to those questions — without resorting to marketing language. The science is on the label.

The Sustainability Story Your Customers Want to Hear

Independent specialty retailers compete on curation and story. Picualia gives you both.

Their mill runs on biomass energy from olive stones — two million of which are donated annually to the surrounding community for home heating. The wash water from cleaning the olives is recycled to irrigate the grounds. No chemicals enter the process at any stage. The cooperative model means that the wealth generated by Picualia's growth is distributed directly among the 950 farming families who supply its olives.

This is the kind of origin story that your environmentally-aware, ethically-minded customer base actively seeks out. In an era when food provenance matters as much as flavour, Picualia can hold its own in any conversation.
